2012 Oklahoma Cycling Calendar

Hey everyone! I’ve spent the past few weeks putting together a new calendar featuring some of the photographs I’ve taken during 2011. I’m currently doing test-prints of it (to make sure it looks good) and should be ready to start shipping these out very soon. If you would like to order one please click-through to this web-page to get some more details and look at a few more preview pictures: http://www.rjbphoto.com/Sports/2012-Oklahoma-Cycling-Calendar/

Tulsa Tough 2011 Photos – Day 1 Blue Dome District

Hey everybody,

I’ve started to upload photos from the Day 1 of Tulsa Tough. Click these links to go to the galleries:

I’m not uploading as many photos as I uploaded last year but if you’re looking for any shots in particular please send me a message (I may have something you want). I’m uploading and processing more shots, and soon I’ll create an official event page with a nice slideshow. Until then here are some of my more favorite photos from the first night of racing:

Men's Cat I/II Race Rainy Finish

Tulsa Tough 2010 Recap

I just finished creating a video featuring some photos I look at last year’s Tulsa Tough races. I wanted to put something together, kind of an advertisement, to let people know that I’ll be at the races this year and taking photos again.

I ended up using Animoto, and it was ridiculously easy. They integrate with Smugmug, so I was able to pull in all my photos already. I just had to choose what to show, arrange things, and write some text. Figuring out what I wanted to say was probably the hardest part. I wanted a kind of flashy theme, and energetic music, and I told it to show the photos quicker than normal to keep it upbeat. Then, I clicked the finish button and they sent everything off to some remote server to render and piece together!

The only other hard part was figuring out where to host the movie file. Animoto has built in hosting, which is nice, but I wanted a link that would play embedded within Facebook, so I uploaded to Youtube instead. They also support uploading back to Smugmug, but I find their player is kind of slow and bulky. Vimeo was another option, but uploading there takes forever and I’m still waiting in a queue for my movie to process.

Tour de Dirt Turkey Mountain Cross Country MTB Race

Tour de Dirt Racing Series - Turkey Mountain Race

Photos I took today are up at this website. I only managed to get out to the Cat 1 and 2 races though. If anyone wants to order prints use the coupon code “dirt” for a free 5×7 print (or $10 off your order if you want a larger print, coupon code is good for this week).

Panoramic shots and minicards

The more recent wedding shoots that I’ve been booking have included a set of engagement mini cards in the portrait package. They’re these cool little cards that are printed on both sides in full color and can say whatever information you might like. Since I’ve been working in more panoramic shots into sessions a lot of the times they look pretty cool in the half-business-card size.

Airshow Photos

Yesterday was the QuickTrip Air and Rocket Race Show, the first airshow Tulsa has had in quite some time. The event was put together by QuickTrip (obviously) and the Tulsa Air and Space Museum (& Planetarium).

Route 66 Regatta

Last weekend was the Route 66 Regatta, an annual rowing event put together by the Tulsa Rowing Club. It was pretty wet but I was still able to take some cool photos. For the future though I need to get a camera that is more weather sealed, the 100-400 pushpull lens I have probably got some water into it, which is unfortunate.

For more photos from the event click the picture to watch a slideshow.

Tulsa Snowstorm Photos 2010 Version

Just got done editing a bunch of photos I took during the past few days during the snow and ice storm we’ve been having. Hope you enjoy!

Winterfest

Last night I finally took a trip over to the 2009 Arvest Winterfest. I had wanted to take photos of it but didn’t have the time while school was still going on. The whole setup is kind of … pieced together, but I like that our city is doing it. For only being the 2nd year of the event there were a lot of people out skating, which is really cool. If it were to get bigger it could be pretty awesome.

Boulderfest 2009

This weekend I went to the 2009 Oklahoma Boulderfest, an annual rock climbing event held in Chandler Park here in Tulsa. I had a great time. The weather was beautiful, one of those mid-October days were you can take your jacket off and feel the wind but not get chilly. (more…)

Drizzly Downtown Tulsa

Twice a month a forum I regularly post in has a photo contest with a theme idea. For each contest the winner nominates themes for the next round and participants vote on which theme everyone will shoot for. It’s been a great way to try new things and shooting styles since the themes are generally broad in nature: fire, science, automobiles, misplaced, and so on. I went downtown this week to shoot and get ideas for this week’s theme: long exposures. I wasn’t really sure what to do but I’ve been in awe lately of the low hanging clouds that have been blocking some of downtown Tulsa’s taller buildings. I wanted to get a panoramic shot of the Bank of Oklahoma tower with clouds sweeping past it’s logo. (more…)

Autocross at Tulsa Raceway Park

I went to another autocross event hosted by SCCA last weekend. This was the first event I’ve been to held at the Tulsa Raceway Park. I took lots of photos and I’ve gotten better at getting a decent shot of at least every driver. My favorite car this time out was definitely the Audi R8. (more…)

Six in the sticks photos

Also this weekend I went to the “Six in the sticks” mountain bike race held at Turkey Mountain in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I found out about the event by reading the DoubleShot Coffee racing blog and thought it’d be a good event to try and practice shooting more sports events. I really enjoy shooting cycling events, but I still need more practice.

DFest 2009 Day 2 Photos (now with lots of video)

I wanted to write another blog post with more DFest 2009 photos. I’ve finished uploading most of the video I took to youtube so those are available for looking at too. I’m still very impressed with the 5D Mark II’s ability to shoot video.

Dfest 2009 – Friday Night

Here is a short post with some photos from the last night of DFest. Lots of people outside and the weather was pretty cool (compared to last year). Full set of photos is here @ flickr.

4th of July Freedom Fest Fireworks (Tulsa, OK)

Got a chance to try out the new 5d mark II during the 4th of July fireworks yesterday. Oh yeah, I bought a whole bunch of new camera equipment… 5d mark II, 580EX II flash, battery grip, and a new 100-400mm L IS USM lens from Canon. Its all super nice but I’m not really used to operating it yet. (more…)

Tulsa Tough

This weekend I went and shot some photos at the 2009 Tulsa Tough competition. Its a 3-day bike race with lots of different events and all kinds of fun stuff.

Vintage 1740 – A Wine Bar

Vintage 1740

I brought the camera with me last night as a couple of friends went to Vintage 1740. It has a nice atmosphere, a good collection of wine, and the staff is very friendly. I like the place at least 10x more than XSi. (more…)

Callupsie & P.D.A.

P.D.A. @ The Marquee 4-18-2009

Got to use the 50mm 1.8 lens in low-light at a concert for the first time last night. Went to a concert at The Marquee where Callupsie and P.D.A. played. I really liked the music and got a few good pictures. I had to bump ISO all the way up to 1600 so there was a lot of noise in the photos. They don’t look to bad in smaller versions, but at full size you can really see it. (more…)

Abandoned school

Went with some friends this weekend to explore an old abandoned school east of Tulsa. Its hard to tell how old some of the stuff in there was. We found a December 1983 Redbook magazine, a 1993 city tournament trophy (for what though?), and a bunch of old Burger King food trash. (more…)

Bank of Oklahoma Center

BoK Center

Its starting to warm up outside so I’ve been looking forward to the good weather. I went down to the Bank of Oklahoma center this weekend hoping to take some pictures. I walked around a lot at first down around 2nd & Denver but realized most of the street signs and power lines were going to get in my way of any good shots. (more…)
