Tulsa Tough 2011 Photos – Day 3 Riverview Criterium
Hello everyone!
I know this post is a little late but I just wanted to post an update to say I’ve uploaded the photos from Day 3 of the 2011 Tulsa Tough races. The easiest way to view the photos is to visit this event page that I’ve created, there is a slideshow and links to all of the galleries where I’ve posted photos organized according to the race.
I know I’ve gotten a lot of requests from specific racers and teams looking for photos and I’m getting along in processing those. Tulsa Tough 2011 Print Winners Annoucned

Tulsa Tough 2010 Recap
I just finished creating a video featuring some photos I look at last year’s Tulsa Tough races. I wanted to put something together, kind of an advertisement, to let people know that I’ll be at the races this year and taking photos again.
I ended up using Animoto, and it was ridiculously easy. They integrate with Smugmug, so I was able to pull in all my photos already. I just had to choose what to show, arrange things, and write some text. Figuring out what I wanted to say was probably the hardest part. I wanted a kind of flashy theme, and energetic music, and I told it to show the photos quicker than normal to keep it upbeat. Then, I clicked the finish button and they sent everything off to some remote server to render and piece together!
The only other hard part was figuring out where to host the movie file. Animoto has built in hosting, which is nice, but I wanted a link that would play embedded within Facebook, so I uploaded to Youtube instead. They also support uploading back to Smugmug, but I find their player is kind of slow and bulky. Vimeo was another option, but uploading there takes forever and I’m still waiting in a queue for my movie to process.
Tour de Dirt Turkey Mountain Cross Country MTB Race
Photos I took today are up at this website. I only managed to get out to the Cat 1 and 2 races though. If anyone wants to order prints use the coupon code “dirt” for a free 5×7 print (or $10 off your order if you want a larger print, coupon code is good for this week).
Route 66 Regatta
Last weekend was the Route 66 Regatta, an annual rowing event put together by the Tulsa Rowing Club. It was pretty wet but I was still able to take some cool photos. For the future though I need to get a camera that is more weather sealed, the 100-400 pushpull lens I have probably got some water into it, which is unfortunate.

Salty Cow Race Extravaganza!
Just a quick note, since I haven’t had the time to write my full blog post yet, I’ve posted pictures from this weekends race on my website in a couple of different spots. This webpage has a slideshow with some of my favorite shots from both of the races this weekend. There is also a coupon for 10% off prints if you’re into that. I have an event page with a lot more photos posted here. I’m still trying to upload photos to Facebook but I keep getting error messages. I wanted to make them centrally available so everyone could tag themselves, but that doesn’t seem to be working out right now so it’ll have to wait.

TU Mens Basketball, TU vs. Colorado
Yesterday I took my camera to the University of Tulsa basketball game against the Colorado Buffaloes. The Golden Hurricane won 84-59, and it was a pretty fun game to watch even though I don’t really know a whole lot about basketball. I think that in order to shoot sports you have to understand the game, since it helps to know what to look for in good shots. I spent a lot of the time looking in the wrong spots and missing good action shots.
Boulderfest 2009
This weekend I went to the 2009 Oklahoma Boulderfest, an annual rock climbing event held in Chandler Park here in Tulsa. I had a great time. The weather was beautiful, one of those mid-October days were you can take your jacket off and feel the wind but not get chilly. (more…)
OMR SCCA Solo2 Autocross Event
I got a chance to head out to a different autocross event in Neosho, MO this weekend with a friend who normally races in the NEOklahoma SCCA group. This event was sponsored by the Ozark Mountain Region Sports Car Club of America. It was a Solo2 regional event (the 6th they’ve had this year) and was held in the parking lot of the Crowder Truck Driving School. The weather was mild and it was an interesting track layout that they were able to set up. (more…)
Autocross at Tulsa Raceway Park
I went to another autocross event hosted by SCCA last weekend. This was the first event I’ve been to held at the Tulsa Raceway Park. I took lots of photos and I’ve gotten better at getting a decent shot of at least every driver. My favorite car this time out was definitely the Audi R8. (more…)
Six in the sticks photos
Also this weekend I went to the “Six in the sticks” mountain bike race held at Turkey Mountain in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I found out about the event by reading the DoubleShot Coffee racing blog and thought it’d be a good event to try and practice shooting more sports events. I really enjoy shooting cycling events, but I still need more practice.
July Heat Solo @ Stroud
This weekend I went out to Stroud for another local autocross event. It wasn’t too hot and this time I brought adequate sun protection (hats, sunblock, etc.). This is also a trip report for my first full outing with the 5d mark 2 and the 100-400mm Canon lens. I had a lot of fun and filled up 24GB of memory cards.
Tulsa Tough
This weekend I went and shot some photos at the 2009 Tulsa Tough competition. Its a 3-day bike race with lots of different events and all kinds of fun stuff.
Autocross at the Stroud Tornado Mall
This weekend I was able to go with some friends to a local autocross event held in Stroud, Oklahoma. A few years back Stroud was hit by a rather devastating tornado which completely destroyed an outlet mall along highway 44. What sits there now is a parking lot which has been converted into Stroud Tornado Mall, a racetrack where local SCCA events are held. The weather was nice but the sun was in full force and I ended up with a pretty nasty sunburn. It was very fun to take pictures of something totally new to me though. (more…)
