I’ve been thinking lately about why I like to shoot cycling events. The cool thing about bike races are that they alleviate many of the difficulties I have with shooting regular sports events. With other sports you either have to pay to get in, are not allowed to bring in telephoto lenses, or cannot get close enough to the action. Bike races are free to spectators, nobody cares what kind of camera you’re shooting with, you can get close to the action, and generally most racers want their photos taken. Events like Boulderfest and the Regatta are similar, but they don’t occur as often. Each of those only happen once a year, but there are lots of cycling events year-round.
